According to the DGS weekly epidemiological bulletin, compared to the previous week, there were 2,757 fewer cases of infection, with a reduction of 21 deaths in the comparison between the two periods.
As for hospital occupancy in mainland Portugal due to covid-19, the DGS started to release data on hospitalizations for the Monday before the report was published on Fridays.
Based on this criterion, the bulletin indicates that, last Monday, 1,208 people were hospitalized, one more than on the same day of the previous week, of which 49 patients were in intensive care units, plus three.
According to DGS data, the seven-day incidence was, on Monday, at 556 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, having registered a 5% reduction in relation to the previous week, while the transmissibility index (Rt) of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was at 1.02.
By region, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo recorded 18,724 cases between April 19 and 25, 1,949 less than in the previous period, and 34 deaths, 10 less.
The Central region accounted for 11,244 cases (minus 513) and 38 deaths (minus two) and the North totalled 17,333 cases of infection (plus 1,249) and 25 deaths (minus two).
In the Alentejo, there were 3,632 positive cases (466 less) and 12 deaths (four more) and in the Algarve there were 2,467 infections by SARS-CoV-2 (642 less) and five deaths (five less).
As for the autonomous regions, the Azores had 2,219 new infections between 19 and 25 April (plus 153) and two deaths (minus one), while Madeira recorded 1,648 cases in those seven days (minus 589) and three deaths (minus five).
According to the DGS, the age group between 40 and 49 years old was the one with the highest number of cases within seven days (9,340), followed by people between 50 and 59 years old (8,604), while children up to nine years were the group with the fewest infections (2,824) in the seven days mentioned.
