“The virus can play more tricks on us, as it did before, and that is why it is very important to emphasise that the virus has not disappeared”, said António Costa Silva.
The official defended that it is necessary "to continue to take all measures and to do everything to contain this threat", warning that "the worst that can happen is to leave a crisis and enter another, or worse than that, a cascade of crises”.
This year, according to António Costa Silva, the Government estimates that the tourism and services sector will generate revenues of 16 billion euros, which corresponds to 85% of the revenues obtained in 2019, the best year in history.
Hasn't he realised that the reason Covid cases are rising expotentially, is because his government decided that mandatory wearing of face masks wasn't necessary!

I wish Portugal would find better ways to increase its GDP than servilism. It is obsolete.

"Right On" Greg! Masks have been PROVEN by Scientists to PREVENT all sorts airborne diseases along with Covid; NOT the light blue surgical but the K & KN 95 double thick with a sprayed layer in-between. They can cost a bit and you can't wash them because you wash off the spray but alternate 7 for months. I was in Porto at Arribida and Nom Successo last week and only about 15% wore masks in such close indoor quarters. NOW is the time to escalate the mask protection mandate so Portugal doesn't become a Red Republic again and ruin the tourism recovery; tourists will still come, may lose 15% but better than losing most; the EU is watching. Covid now in the 6th wave so if vexed, 2 boosters and an N or NK95 mask you can go anywhere and will not get a breakthrough event; be sensible, the elections are over , no need to pander to the deniers; BRING BACK THE MASK!
