“There are several scenarios, but the most likely is that the month of June will be considered normal to hot,” said Ricardo Deus, from the Division of Meteorological Forecasting and Surveillance and the Division of Climate and Climate Change at IPMA.
Forecasts for the next few days indicate a rise in temperatures, especially in the interior, where “they will rise to values above the usual for the season, reminding us that summer is near”. However, on Monday, there should be a drop in the maximum temperature, which will accentuate the following day.
According to a report by CNN Portugal, Ricardo Deus also added that “May 2022 will have been one of the hottest since 1931”. According to data provided by the IPMA, during the month of May of this year, temperatures were almost always above the monthly average value, with emphasis on the 20th, 27th and 28th, when the maximum air temperature was above 30 degrees.
Regarding the summer, high temperatures are set to remain as is usual with the time of year and are also predicted to continue on into September and October when based on previous data.
“Over the last 20 years, in the months of September and October, the average value of the average air temperature in mainland Portugal was almost always higher than the normal value”, he concluded.
No mention having had the coldest, rainiest March and April? Even begging May was bad.
