“The evolution observed in June resulted from the negative contribution of all components: expectations regarding the future evolution of the country's economic situation, the financial situation of the household and the realisation of important purchases by families and opinions on the past evolution of the situation", according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Price increases anticipated

Consumers also anticipate further increases in the value of products in the coming months: the balance of opinions on the past evolution of prices in the last 12 months, rose to 79.2 points, equalling the maximum of the statistical series, recorded in May 2008.

The economic climate indicator dropped for the second consecutive month, to 1.7%. The estimate was drawn up from the responses to surveys from companies in the manufacturing industry, commerce, construction and public works and services.

In companies, confidence indicators for manufacturing, trade and services improved in June. The only exception was the segment dedicated to construction and public works.
