According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection
Authority (ANEPC) website, 788 firefighters were fighting the four ongoing
fires, supported by 246 vehicles.
The fire that mobilised the most resources was the one that
broke out in the municipality of Fundão on Sunday afternoon and then spread to
the neighbouring municipality of Covilhã, both in the district of Castelo
Branco, with 403 operational personnel and 119 vehicles.
The fire that broke out at 2:45 pm on Friday in the parish
of Bustelo, municipality of Chaves, in the district of Vila Real, also had to
be controlled, and had 169 operational personnel on the ground, with the
support of 55 land assets.
Still in Vila Real, the fire that broke out in Cortinhas,
municipality of Murça, was still active at 07:00, which was being fought by 148
operatives, with the support of 51 vehicles.
At 07:00 today, more than a thousand operatives were
fighting 31 fires - between ongoing fires, resolution and conclusion - in
mainland Portugal, with the help of 353 vehicles.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere
(IPMA) today put more than 80 municipalities in the districts of Porto, Vila
Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Castelo Branco and
Portalegre at maximum risk of rural fire.
Almost all municipalities in the 18 districts of mainland
Portugal currently present a maximum, very high or high risk of rural fire.
The IPMA also placed the district of Bragança under yellow
warning due to the persistence of high values of the maximum temperature
until 21:00 today.
