2021 was also the year in which the European startup ecosystem broke investment records – raising €101 billion, according to DEEP Ecosystems Startup Heatmap Europe Report 2022.

The capital appears in fourth position, having risen two places compared to the previous year –with 16.36 percent of the votes of the founders.

Leading the ranking is, for the second year running, the German capital, Berlin. London (United Kingdom) and Barcelona (Spain) complete the podium, occupying the second and third places on the list, respectively. Closing the top five, after Lisbon, is the capital of the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Lisbon is also the city, of small and medium size, which has the highest percentage of female founders (23.2 percent), followed by Dublin (23.1 percent), in Ireland, and Stockholm (20.2 percent) in Sweden.
