According to the proposals released by the party, dated from
the end of October and beginning of November, Chega proposes that foods such as
fruits and vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, milk and bread be temporarily exempt
from VAT.
This measure, to be in force during the next year, is
"transitory in view of the current generalised increase in prices",
indicates the party in the proposed amendment to the OE2023, considering that
"the poorest families find themselves, at the moment, with no room to
accommodate inflation, which is reflected in sharp rises in energy prices and
also in the prices of essential goods in the shopping basket".
Chega also proposes lowering the reduced VAT rate from 6% to
4%, the intermediate rate from 13% to 11% and the maximum VAT rate from 23% to
21%.
"The reduction in the VAT rate is a fundamental factor,
both for the country's fiscal competitiveness, and for mitigating the financial
effort of families and companies, in a particularly difficult situation such as
the one we are going through at the moment", defend the deputies of Chega.
After approval in general, the Government's proposal for the
State Budget for next year is being considered in detail in parliament and the
final global vote is scheduled for 25 November.
Chega can propose what they like but no-one takes these proto-fascists seriously. This kind of populist proposal is exacy the kind of stunt used throughout the 20th and current century to cultivate support from the poor/under-class and the working classes. Don't be fooled. Their real intention is to control a Police State.

Russel Taylor: Sad thing is, all the other Political parties aren´t pro active in helping poorer people not become poorer, and so he does get support when he raises issues that others won´t touch. (They´ll talk plenty, but do nothing-we´ve seen this countless times). We´ve had left wing gvrts, but then in practice they don´t do the social reforms they always rave about when it´s time to hit the ballots. 1 could also argue that misleading people the way successive gvrts have done IS their ultimate stunt. “Tomorrow”, “Future”, “Social Justice”, “Youth opportunities”= just bait to get votes; but then they have nothing substantial to show for. The racist rhetoric doesn´t appeal to me; but it seems that since others don´t walk their talk on all other issues, Chega can capitalize on discontent. And don´t be fooled, the people with the prettiest speeches and the latent racism are 1 and the same. I get more mad at liars, than at people you don´t sympathise with but at least with them what you see is what you get. Obama capitalized on that latent racism, which is why Trump was able to thrive afterwards. I look at issues, at walk-talk coherence – the divides commonly used to define people politically have been so deceiving; I don´t care what people call themselves, anymore-just their actions).
