“The Algarve surpassed, in March, the values registered for the room occupancy rate since 2002”, said the Associação de Hotéis e Empreendimentos Turísticos do Algarve (AHETA) in a statement, stressing that the March numbers surpassed by 10.7 percentage points the same records of 2019, the best tourist year ever.

Occupancy per room also rose compared to the previous year, registering 13.9 percentage points more than in March 2022, said AHETA in the monthly data on occupancy per room compiled by its research office.

The Algarve business association highlighted the contribution of the Dutch markets, with an increase of 3.6 percentage points, and German, with another 1.5 percentage points.


“The national and Spanish markets contributed with an increase of 0.6 percentage points to the change in bed occupancy compared to March 2023”.

The areas of the Algarve where the rise in occupation was most felt were Portimão/Praia da Rocha, with an increase of 16.1 percentage points, Lagos/Sagres, with an increase of 12.6 percentage points, and Carvoeiro/ Armação de Pera, with another 10.2, AHETA also pointed out.
