“In relation to what the situation was before the 25th of April, I would give 17 points. Regarding expectations which are skyrocketing and are higher on the part of the younger people, I would give it 14”, said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in response to a student who asked the Head of State to evaluate Portuguese democracy with a score from 0 to 20.
Marcelo was speaking during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the III Congress of the Democratic Opposition, which began this morning at the University of Aveiro.
During his speech, the Head of State began by giving a history lesson on the most important moments experienced in Aveiro related to the construction of democracy in Portugal and took the opportunity to explain to young people that the 25th of April “did not fall from the sky”.
The President answered several questions from the audience, made up mostly of young students, on various subjects such as education, regionalisation and euthanasia.
Really? What politician would fail to give their political structure a failing grade?
