The work, which will imply cutting off circulation in the tunnel, has an execution period of 250 days.

The works are aimed at replacing the coverings on the walls and enhancing the safety and comfort of tunnel users, through the installation or integrated replacement of a set of infrastructures.

The 1.15 kilometre long road tunnel, provides one of the main accesses to Braga, from the North Circular (Avenida António Macedo) and the city centre (Avenida da Liberdade), and has two other accesses located on Rua Conde from Agrolongo and on Avenida Central.

Inaugurated in 1997 and extended in 2009, over a length of 300 metres, the tunnel, according to the Chamber, “never underwent any major intervention”, having only been the target of “minor conservation and maintenance interventions”.

With the intervention that will now take place, the Chamber intends “not only to rehabilitate, but to modernise the tunnel, through the requalification of the rainwater drainage network, repaving of the carriageways, and replacement of the coverings of the walls.

The requalification also includes the installation of a video surveillance network and the installation of traffic control and counting.
