In a statement, AHETA said that the occupancy rate per room in the Algarve was 68.5%, i.e. 3.3 percentage points above that seen in 2019, before the sector was hit by the covid-19 pandemic, and 6.3 percentage points above the one verified in April 2022.

"Compared to the same month of the previous year, the markets that most contributed to the rise were the Irish with 2.6 more and the British with 1.8 more percentage points", reads the note.

The national market contributed with an increase of 0.2 percentage points to the change in occupancy per bed compared to April 2019, the reference year as it preceded the covid-19 pandemic in Portugal.

By geographical area, the biggest increases compared to 2019 occurred in the areas of Vilamoura, Quarteira and Quinta do Lago (8.2 percentage points more), Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra (7.8 percentage points more) and Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António (7.6 percentage points more).
