According to a study by Standvirtual and reported by NM, the average price of used cars has been increasing progressively since December 2020, when they were around 18,500 euros. However, in December 2022, the average price was around 23,500 euros, an increase of +27% in just two years.
The most common cars for sale on the platform have 50,000km on the clock and are diesel.
The site highlights that Mercedes-Benz A 180 rose from 25,000 to 32,000 euros from January 2021 to 2023. In the case of the Nissan Qashqai, it rises from 20,500 to 25,500 euros, in the same two-year period. As for the Renault Clio, from January 2021 to 2023, prices have also risen from 13,500 to 18,500 euros.
Used cars have always been expensive in Portugal, Especially 1-3 years old.
You may as well try and get a deal on a new one.
You get exact colour choice interior colour no km on clock full warranty all new .
Used cars come with limited warranty. New have no test required for a long time too. My own experience is if used go private if you can then compare garage /stand prices to what price is being asked. If in doubt take a mechanic with you to view privately and pay him for his time.

The crazy prices of second hand cars caused me to buy new. I'd prefer to spend more, and know exactly what I'm getting for my money: five-year warranty, zero mileage and no inspection before 4 years. Buying second hand is rarely worth it, unless you can strike a bargain. This is more likely directly with the vendor, than with a garage.

Used car prices are so high in Portugal partly due to the authorities breaching EU law and making it almost impossible to import a vehicle from another EU state - the government pays a fine to the commission each year, but clearly this is dwarfed by the amount of taxes they collect from artificially inflated car prices and import duties.

Portugal's solution for everything is to raise taxes. No clue on how to improve living conditions. No clue on how to follow EU regulations. The socialists only know how to raise taxes and fines.
