According to CIVISA, at 9:40 am (10:40 am in Lisbon) an earthquake of magnitude 2.1 on the Richter scale was recorded, with the epicenter five kilometers from Santa Bárbara.
This earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV on the Modified Mercali scale, in the parish of Santa Bárbara, and with intensity III in the parish of São Bartolomeu, also in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.
Earlier, at 05:19, a shock of magnitude 1.9 on the Richter scale was recorded, felt in the parish of Terra Chã, Angra do Heroísmo, with maximum intensity III on the Modified Mercali scale.
Intensity level IV is considered to be “moderate”, and results in “parked cars shaking”, “windows, doors and dishes shake” and “glasses and dishes rattle or clank”, with the walls or wooden structures creaking.
