The inaugural flight of the route was celebrated in Abu Dhabi with a ceremony that was attended by Fernando d'Orey de Brito e Cunha Figueirinhas, Ambassador of Portugal to the United Arab Emirates, as well as Chris Hedlin, Vice President of Planning Etihad Airways Network.

“As we continue to expand our global network, we are excited to be flying to Lisbon for the first time. We look forward to welcoming guests visiting the historic city of Lisbon while connecting people from Portugal with the United Arab Emirates and destinations in the Middle East, Asia and Australia”, said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways.

The new Etihad Airways route to Lisbon has three flights a week, which take place on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, on a state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with the capacity to carry 28 passengers in business class and 262 in economics.

The launch of flights to Lisbon comes at a time when the United Arab Emirates airline is opening routes to various summer destinations, such as the Greek island of Mykonos, whose connections started on June 16, and Malaga, whose flights kicked off on Sunday, June 18th.
