"As of today, all non-frequent users of the Metro will have at their disposal new technology installed in all the validation channels of the Metropolitano de Lisboa that makes it possible to pass through them upon presentation of a contactless bank, debit, credit card, or payment device, smartphone or smartwatch, no longer requiring the typical transport ticket", according to Notícias ao Minuto.
This means that you can now simply “tap” to pay for your metro journey.
"The equipment installed by Indra on the access channels reads the card and automatically debits the value of the trip from the user's account. In this new payment method, trips have the normal cost of €1.65 (for the entire Metropolitano de Lisboa network)".
As part of this partnership between Metro, Visa and Indra, “1,504 contactless readers were installed in 752 validation channels, as well as the development of software with adaptations for the integration of EMV payments – Europay Mastercard and Visa ".
Can I tap twice on the one card when entering and double tap again when exiting?
