According to the Iberinform database, which gathers together companies from all over the country in a directory, the remaining 10 municipalities have 27 percent of the companies in the district of Faro, which includes 16 municipalities altogether.
The data shows that in the region there is a "predominance of micro companies [up to 10 workers and a turnover of up to two million euros]", corresponding to around 89 percent of the total businesses.
"However, micro-companies contribute only 13 percent of the total turnover of the district," says the company, which is a subsidiary of Crédito e Caución, a Spanish credit insurance company.
Small companies (with 11 to 50 employees and a turnover of up to 10 million euros), which represent around 10 percent of the total, lead in terms of turnover, contributing 31 percent of the total value, it adds.
According to Iberinform data, medium-sized companies (51 to 250 employees and a turnover of up to 50 million euros) make up approximately 1 percent of the total number of companies and achieve 29 percent of their turnover, while large companies represent less than 1 percent and are responsible for 26 percent of the total turnover.
The construction sector has 13 percent of the companies and a contribution of 13 percent of the turnover, while the services sector has 42 percent of the companies and is responsible for 28 percent of the turnover.
According to the data, companies set up in the last five years represent 40% of the region's total and generate 10 percent of the total turnover.
