David Raimundo, coach of the Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS) says, in a statement, that the championship was difficult, knowing that they would be dealing with strong candidates, such as the Spanish national team.

In the women's surfing final, Mafalda Lopes prevailed over three Spanish women, and, right after, it was Guilherme Ribeiro's turn to show why he is the national champion, beating the Irishman Geaorid McDaid, the Spaniard Luiz Diaz and the Dutchman Beyrick de Vries for managing to bring the gold medal and thus seal the European title for Portugal.

Before, it was Raquel Bento who won the silver medal in the women's longboard competition, and António Dantas achieved the same feat in the men's longboard. Gold was awarded to Englishmen Emily Curry and Ben Skinner, respectively.
