Restaurant Review: Lodo

Lodo is an upscale fish restaurant located on Rua Conselheiro Bivar in Faro's historic center, boasting a cozy terrace with luxurious tables. Enjoy delectable seafood dishes, friendly service, and a beautiful ambiance while people watching.

Lodo is a charming and upmarket restaurant, surrounded by several other eateries and terraces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The street itself is a car-free haven, providing a peaceful setting for diners to indulge in a delightful culinary experience.

The restaurant, housed in a beautifully restored building with original stone ceilings, exudes an air of elegance and authenticity.

The highlight of Lodo is undoubtedly its cozy terrace adorned with 12 luxurious tables. For solo diners, it's a perfect spot to enjoy a meal while savoring the lively ambiance of passersby strolling along the street. Adjacent to Lodo is the Aperitivo terrace, where guests can unwind with a glass of wine in the pleasant evening hours.

As a fish restaurant, Lodo's menu predominantly features an array of seafood dishes, complemented by a few meat options and a single vegan dish. With the name "Lodo" meaning "sludge" or "mud" in Portuguese, it's clear that the restaurant pays homage to its maritime theme.

Main course prices range from €18.50 to €118.

Upon arrival, I quenched my thirst on a hot day with a delicious red wine and a refreshing bottle of Pedras water. The attentive and sweet waitress made me feel welcome and well-cared for from the start.

For starters, I opted for the mixed salad with fresh tomatoes, radish, and delightful croutons. While it was satisfying, I found the flavors to be a touch on the bland side, lacking the boldness I had anticipated.

For my main course, I tried pasta with tomato sauce and basil. Again, the dish was enjoyable, but it failed to truly excite my taste buds. Regrettably, I couldn't help but compare it to my wife's homemade pasta, which she masterfully prepares with richer and more robust flavors.

The standout aspect of Lodo, however, was the impeccable service. The friendly and attentive staff made the dining experience a pleasure, enhancing the overall charm of the restaurant.

Lodo's picturesque terrace in the heart of Faro's historic center makes it a highly recommended destination for seafood enthusiasts seeking a serene and elegant dining spot. While the dishes were tasty, I felt they could benefit from a bit more flair. Nevertheless, the ambiance, delightful service, and beautiful surroundings create a memorable experience worth savoring. So, if you find yourself in Faro and crave a peaceful meal amidst the historic charm, Lodo should be on your list of must-visit restaurants.
