“It is no longer a new reality. It is a universal reality that arrived in Portugal two or three years ago”, stated Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

“This is positive because, in recent years, youth has largely been the driving force behind this concern about the climate”, insisted Marcelo.

The Environment Minister was attacked with green paint by three young climate activists, during a CNN conference on energy transition in which the companies Galp and EDP participated.

Speaking to journalists, the President of the Republic considered that “the forms of struggle are more or less effective”, however, it is not up to him to qualify their effectiveness.

“Effectiveness comes from mobilising the Portuguese towards this ambition that is very important for everyone”, he said.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa argued that in the fight against climate change, “it can be said that more is needed and faster” and that “time is being wasted”.

But the President also highlighted that Portugal is “at the forefront in Europe and Europe is at the forefront in the world” on this issue.
