Lisbon's new diplomatic representative, who arrived in the African country in March, was received with ceremonial honours from the Honor Guard of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF), together with the heads of mission designated by 22 countries, according to the Presidency of the South African Republic.
The ceremony to present letters of credentials to the South African head of state took place at the official Sefako Makgatho residence, in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, he said.
In a welcome message published in March on the page of the diplomatic portal dedicated to the Embassy of Portugal in South Africa, ambassador José Costa Pereira listed as a “priority objective” the presentation of “current Portugal” that can become a “partner” of South Africa.
“There is a promising future ahead of us and we want to boost the bilateral relationship, whether in the field of science or energy, culture or commerce, sport or youth, to name just a few examples. There is a vast path for a fruitful exchange and to obtain tangible results”, highlighted José Costa Pereira.
“We set the bar high and we are aware of that. We can promise dedication and commitment or, if you prefer, a spirit of mission”, he said.
