According to a note published on the PSML website, “the National Park and Palace of Pena, the Castelo dos Mouros, the Convento dos Capuchos and the Park and Palace of Monserrate will be closed this Thursday”.

“The National Palace of Sintra and the National Palace of Queluz remain open”, reads the note.

Previously purchased tickets can be used on any other dates, with the exception of tickets for visits to the Palácio da Pena, which “can be refunded by contacting us using the form” added in the note published on the PSML website.

As an official PSML source told Lusa, there was “the fall of some trees in the mountains, due to the rain and intense wind”, but for now “nothing compared to previous situations” of bad weather.

The same source added that “a tree fell on a path in Parque da Pena”, leading to the palace located at the top of the mountain, but so far there has been no damage to people or property.

The closure of the monuments is only in effect for today, but the official source said that “the situation will be assessed during the day”.

Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua is a company with exclusively public capital, created in 2000, following the classification by UNESCO (acronym in English of the Organization of the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture) of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, in the district of Lisbon, as a World Heritage Site.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts for today, with the passage of depression Aline, southwest wind, gradually becoming strong in the Center and South regions from the beginning of the morning, with gusts that could reach 110 kilometers per hour (km/h), especially on the coast south of Cape Mondego and including the south coast of the Algarve, and in the mountains of these regions.

The IPMA indicates that gusts exceeding 110 km/h may occur locally, as well as extreme wind phenomena.

As for rain, it should increase in frequency and intensity from the morning onwards, and, in terms of sea agitation, waves from the west quadrant measuring four to five meters are expected for the western coast, increasing to five to seven meters in height and possibly reach a maximum height of up to 14 meters.

During the day, all districts of mainland Portugal are under an orange weather warning, the second most serious on a scale of three.
