Currently detained in Germany, the suspect will be tried from 16 February for three alleged rapes and two sexual abuse allegations, at a time when the investigation into his involvement in the disappearance of Maddie continues, the district said in a statement.

A month ago, the Portuguese Judicial Police clarified that in the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, in the Algarve, in 2007, steps continue to be taken, aiming to clarify the situation, and that contacts were made with Madeleine McCann's relatives.

Arrested in Kiel, in the north of the country, Christian Brueckner was already convicted in 2019 of the rape of a 72-year-old American tourist, in 2005, in the Portuguese town of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007.

Regarding these facts, investigations continue and the German Public Prosecutor's Office has not yet filed charges for the death of Madeleine McCann.
