Portugal saw an increase of 1.2% in greenhouse gas emissions in 2022 compared to 2021, according to preliminary estimates by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The increase is attributed to higher emissions in the energy sector (+2.1%) and the industrial processes and product use sector (+0.5%).
Additionally, INE data for 2022 notes that it was the “hottest year in the last 92 years” with an average air temperature of 16.64 ºC.
