According to a post from the PSP on Facebook, the new situation of fraud, which takes place "through telephone calls", involves a situation where the "suspect speaks in English and informs [the victim] that they have a pending judicial/police problem and that, to solve it, you will have to pay a fine."
The PSP also advised the population to "not provide personal data" and "not make any transfers".
There is also a secure line through which you can get in touch with any queries or any complaints about fraud: (+351) 800 219 090.
I had this call today from 965960473 presumably from Judicial Police. The lady spoke fluent English with strong American accent. Said that my ID was used for crime and there is a warrant for my arrest. Asked me to provide details for verification. I asked her to tell me again which agency she represents. She answered and call was disconnected then.

I received a phone call from +351 965 127 838, purportedly from the national police in Portugal. The call began with a prerecorded message alleging that my identity had been stolen and that the individuals involved were engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering. Following this, I was presented with various options, such as speaking with an officer, by pressing different numbers. Subsequently, I spoke with two individuals claiming to be police officers, one identifying themselves as working for the Portuguese police and the other for the police in The Hague, Netherlands.
During the conversation, they inquired about my bank accounts and suggested that they would block my ID and bank accounts. They then recommended that I transfer my money to another bank, as they indicated that my funds would be at risk once they proceeded with blocking my accounts. They emphasized that I would have a limited window of time, approximately 40-45 minutes, to transfer my funds to a safe location.
Initially, I entertained the possibility that the situation could be genuine. However, upon hearing their request for a bank transfer, I expressed my disbelief and informed them that I would report the matter to the Portuguese police immediately. The call abruptly ended thereafter.

I received a call from the "Judicial Police", starting with the recorded message about a warrant out for my arrest. The whole thing fell apart when the person asked me for the last 3 numbers of my ID card. As a foreigner I don't have one, of course, but a residents card or Passport. She didn't seem to understand this and then I started to question the validity of the phone call. She said she would refer the case to my local police and hung up.
I then checked and found out it was a scam. Another woman then called me and sounded rather too casual to be a police officer, I thought. I told her I was reporting the phone call in case it was a scam. The line went down then....

I received a pre-recorded English voiced message with the same attempt at phishing from number 964906441. These criminals must be changing numbers regularly. I wonder if any of you work for telecom companies and can identify these frequent number changers? It might be a way to catch them as they are all Portuguese numbers.
