The double World Cup-winning Springbok forward has only played in 10 games (268 minutes) for Munster since 2020 because of two knee ailments and a shoulder problem. He was involved in the United Rugby Championship championship victory of the previous season, but he had a shoulder injury at the most recent World Cup and is not anticipated to return until the spring of 2024.

Leo Cullen, the head coach of Leinster, stated, "We're thrilled that RG will be joining us next season. He is a formidable athlete who is entering his peak and a top-tier operator who will increase competition for that spot on our team.

“In addition, he is a multiple World Cup-winning Springbok, which offers experience that all of our players may benefit from. We are constantly searching for methods to enhance our collective learning, and RG should be able to assist us in doing so, based on what I've heard from Jacques.”

"His arrival is a fair bit away yet, but it’s great to have his signature and in time we can welcome him properly, but for now it’s all eyes on our trip down to Limerick on St Stephen’s Day."
