The 23-year-old had a tremendous season with the Gipsies, finishing tied for first place in scoring and being called up to Stephen Kenny's international team. The PFA Ireland Player of the Year Award was another nomination that the frontman received.

The former Southampton and Celtic striker, who had one year left on his contract, was rumoured to have drawn interest from many Belgian clubs as well as from England.

The race to recruit Afolabi has been won by KV Kortrijk, who are now anchored to the bottom of the standings in Belgium's Pro-League with just two wins from 20 games.

They made a first offer of €200,000 last month, with additional payments coming in the form of bonuses.

Afolabi, who was leaving, honoured the Dalymount club.

"It has been a pleasure and an honour to play for Bohs the last year and a half," he stated.

"I want to express my gratitude to the coaching staff, my teammates, and all of the supporters for making my stay here so wonderful. I'll be leaving behind many positive experiences from my job that have advanced me."
