“Last week temperatures were above average for the month of January. For example, on Sunday the maximum values were around 2 to 7/8 degrees above normal for the time, varying, of course, depending on the location of the IPMA stations”, said the meteorologist at the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA ).

According to Patrícia Gomes, this week, maximum temperatures will remain below 20 degrees, being occasionally higher (20/21 degrees) in the southern region of the Tagus Valley.

“But generally speaking, they will be between 17 and 19 degrees, remaining stable throughout the week”, she indicated.

The IPMA also predicts for this week, according to Patrícia Gomes, weak to moderate wind, skies with some cloudiness and mist or morning fog in some places.

The possibility of light precipitation on the coast is also expected.

The minimum temperatures today on the continent will vary between 3 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) and 12 (in Faro and Portalegre) and the maximum between 13 (in Guarda) and 20 (in Santarém).

“For today and tomorrow [Tuesday] suspended dust is also expected from North Africa. On Sunday they affected the Madeira archipelago and from today onwards it will be the mainland. It’s not expected to be very intense, it might not even be visible, but it will still be in the atmosphere,” she said.
