According to a note from the party, the meeting of the highest body of Madeiran social democrats between congresses will take place at the Madeira Congress Center, in Funchal, with statements to the media expected at the end of the meeting, around 7:00pm.

A meeting of the PSD/Madeira Regional Council was scheduled for 29 January, to approve the name of Miguel Albuquerque's successor as head of the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP), but ended up being cancelled that day, after the leader of the executive formalised his resignation with the representative of the Republic, Ireneu Barreto.

The representative accepted Miguel Albuquerque's resignation but clarified that he has not yet decided on what date it will take effect, admitting that this could only happen after the discussion and approval of the Regional Budget for this year in the Legislative Assembly, which should occur next week.

Miguel Albuquerque announced on 26 January that he would resign from his position, two days after being named a defendant as part of a process investigating suspected corruption in Madeira and which led to the arrest of the mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado ( PSD), and two businessmen linked to the construction and tourism sector.

On the 29 January, at the end of the meeting with the representative of the Republic, Albuquerque refused to say who would be appointed to replace him, adding that he would meet again with the party's bodies.

“These will be informal meetings with the party leadership, with the aim of finding a solution that is in line with the interests of this majority [PSD/CDS-PP, with a parliamentary influence agreement with the PAN] and in line with the interests of the population of Madeira”, he said.

Albuquerque also revealed that he will remain, president of the PSD/Madeira, until a new congress is held, with no date yet set, but that he will not occupy the position of deputy in the Regional Legislative Assembly.
