The Eclusa bridge has been used to access the city center, namely the Beira Mar neighbourhood, and, in particular, while the renovation work on Rossio and Praça Humberto Delgado lasted.

The measure is justified by the entry into a new phase of the urban qualification work between the Pirâmides roundabout and the Sluices bridge, in a municipal investment of around two million euros.

According to a municipal note, a new phase begins today (1 February) in the project to reprofile Rua do Sal.

The resizing of the road will be carried out in conjunction with the reconfiguration work of the Ecomuseum of the Troncalhada Navy, which is also underway.

According to the municipality, this is “a strategic work connecting Rossio and the Beira-Mar neighbourhood”, which will then be accessed mainly via the Eclusa Bridge and the São João Bridge.

“This road channel will also be fundamental for managing access to the land of the former Aveiro auction”, states the press release.

According to the municipality, the road widening will allow connection to the new roundabout to the west of the viaduct under Motorway 25 (A25), “fundamental in the organization of access to the city, the motorway and surrounding areas of interest”.

With the new work front, access to the São Roque canal and the Beira-Mar neighbourhood via the Eclusa bridge and Avenida David Cristo is prohibited.

The traffic restriction is justified to ensure the conditions for carrying out the work and safety and is expected to last six weeks, after which road traffic will resume.

It is recommended as an alternative that motorists use the northern access via the A25, through the roundabout connecting Avenida 25 de Novembro and Avenida Carlos Candal (Agras junction).

Another suggested alternative is to enter the city via the Esgueira interchange on the A25 and head towards Avenida 25 de Novembro.
