SCImago explain on their website that the ranking is based on the research of experts in the area that focus on many criteria, such as the main focus of the published news, whether the newspapers are focused, for example, in sports, economic or general news. The “Cybermedia with a national-global, regional and ‘glocal’ projection”, focuses on the geographic coverage of the news.
After the research, newspapers are ranked through four indicators, valuing 25% each for the final score.
