The surfer said that he would rejoin the elite in 2025, following the first round of the circuit in Hawaii, when he did not go past the qualifying round and did not even compete due to health issues.

The World Surfing League (WSL) has already opened up a “wildcard” spot for 2025. Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam, who will replace Toledo on the circuit, will compete in four of the five stages, including the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, which will take place at Praia de Supertubos in Peniche from March 6–16.

“It is with regret that I announce that I am withdrawing from the 2024 Championship Tour (CT) season. This decision has been very difficult for me and comes after days of discussion with those closest to me. The WSL has been supportive of me, and I am incredibly grateful for having granted me the wildcard for the start of the 2025 season. I am committed to coming back better than ever,” wrote the athlete from São Paulo, on his official Instagram account.

“In the past, I have always been honest about some of my challenges, not just with injuries but also with mental health. Competing at the highest level over the last decade has had a negative impact on me and I need a break to recover for the next chapter of my career,” he added.

Despite the pause in the stages of the world circuit, Toledo promised to “focus” on his presence in the surfing competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in French Polynesia.
