Charlie McConalogue, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, affirmed the €29.7 million allotment for various projects in Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Galway, and Donegal.

Killybegs, Ros an Mhíl (Rosaveel), An Daingean (Dingle), Castletownbere, Dunmore East, and Howth are the locations of the state harbours.

According to Mr. McConalogue, these establishments get almost 87% of Ireland's fishing harvest, making them "strategic hubs" for the seafood sector.

€116 million has been invested in these harbours since 2020.

Ireland's seafood industry is valued at €1.3 billion by Bord Iascaigh Mahara, and according to Mr. McConalogue, the announcement made today “underpins this Government's commitment to the sector.”

According to him, increasing funding for it will contribute to "climate resilience and the further development of Ireland's Blue Economy" in addition to advancing the delivery of significant infrastructure.

The majority of the money will go to Ros an Mhíl; €17 million will be used to build a deep-water dock, which should be completed by the end of the following year.

The Smooth Point pier expansion project in Killybegs is expected to be completed in a few months, and it will cost €3.25 million.

As part of a global initiative, Castletownbere's port will receive €575,000 for the upkeep of its mainland quay. Over the next several years, additional incremental investments will be made in the west Cork town.

Additionally, the Department said that a portion of the monies will go towards upkeep at Cape Clear, an island off the coast of Cork, as well as repairs at a few other piers, lights, and beacons around the coast.
