Since it went into operation on February 17, 2023, the ‘Online Nationality’ platform has received more than 28,800 applications for Portuguese nationality. Around 45% of requests were made by Brazilian citizens.
The data comes from the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), which, in a statement, detailed that, during this period, a total of 28,867 requests for nationality were registered online.
The same note detailed that 7,555 of these requests were made under legal residence in the country for at least five years, while 5,160 were based on the attribution of nationality to citizens born abroad and children of Portuguese parents.
In turn, 4,878 requests were due to "attribution to grandchildren of Portuguese citizens", while 4,682 were based on naturalisation through marriage. 3,376 requests were made by descendants of Portuguese Sephardic Jews.
According to IRN, "Brazil is the country that leads the countries that most requested Portuguese nationality, with 12,844 applications submitted online (around 45%)".
Since December 1, 2023, requests for nationality by agents have been made exclusively online, aimed at lawyers and solicitors registered with the respective professional associations in Portugal. From the organisation's perspective, "this measure helped alleviate the pressure on service, removing around 10,000 face-to-face services per month from branches, and contributed to making services more efficient by reducing the receipt of paper orders."
I would like to know please, what about the applications done in 2021?

Naturalization process is way too slow, application done in year 2022 still pending at stage 3/4. New application only will increase delay as IRN is not subject to answer any question.
