The event, promoted by the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alto Alentejo (CIMAA), is scheduled for February 26, at the Covento de Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Arronches.

Duarte Claudino from CIMAA stated the organisation hopes to welcome the participation of 4,000 to 4,500 people” this year, which will take place in most of the municipalities that are part of the Portalegre district, until June.

“The objective of this game is to promote physical activity, raise awareness of a healthy lifestyle, promote territorial cohesion and disseminate endogenous products from each location, through the socialisation and contact between different people from different municipalities”, he explained.

The XXII Edition of the Alto Alentejo Games encompasses around three dozen sports, including paddle tennis, swimming, futsal, sport fishing, water aerobics, cycle touring or canoeing.

“The games are for people of all ages, including people who belong to institutions and people with disabilities”, he highlighted.

Duarte Claudino added the 2024 edition will be attended by participants from 14 of the 15 municipalities in the Portalegre district, with the exception of Monteforte.

As maintained by the director of CIMAA, the closing ceremony of JAA will be held “at the end of June” in Portalegre.
