The local accommodation platform allowed surveillance cameras in common areas, such as hallways or living rooms, if they were clearly visible in the ad.
However, some customers complained on social media about having found surveillance cameras hidden in their homes and some in places where privacy should be respected.
“This update is part of the platform’s efforts to simplify its policy regarding security cameras and other devices, and thus protect the privacy of the community of hosts and travellers,” the San Francisco-based company highlighted.
This new policy, as well as the strengthening of rules on outdoor surveillance cameras, will come into force on April 30, according to the company.
“Our goal with these new rules is to provide the community with greater clarity about what they can expect from Airbnb”.
Doorbell cameras and decibel measuring devices will still be allowed by Airbnb to protect accommodations, according to the company.
