Speaking to the Lusa agency, José Rodrigues, operations officer at ANEPC, said, at 8:15 am, that most of the situations occurred in the north and centre and Greater Lisbon.
“Since 18:00 on March 25th [on Monday], when the special civil protection alert began, and 07:00 today, 229 incidents were recorded across the country, the majority in the Area Metropolitan Porto with 50 and Greater Lisbon with 28”, he indicated.
According to José Rodrigues, the incidents are related to the strong wind that is being felt throughout almost the entire country.
“Between 6pm on the 25th and 7am today, 819 operational personnel were mobilized, with the support of 339 land assets,” he said.
The worsening of weather conditions in the coming days, with rain and strong wind, sea disturbances and snowfall, led ANEPC to alert the population to take preventive measures.
Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IMPA), Civil Protection warned on Monday of the possibility of wind, sometimes strong, in the highlands and on the west coast with gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour (km/H).
For today, the IPMA predicts rain, sometimes heavy and persistent, which could be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong sea agitation with waves from the northwest on the west coast, reaching six to seven metres north of Cape Carvoeiro (maximum height of 12 metres).
For the highlands, especially in the north and center, forecasts point to snowfall.
It seems it a dangerous time to trim trees than may overhang a neighbors property he only uses to raise chickens, in large quantity, plus some prize roosters. It is not at all safe to have a contractor try to trim overhanging branches from fir trees on our property that have bent down onto his chicken buildings. Sorry bit I choose safety of the men trying to trim versusus his chickens.
Whom should I contact about this. The owner of the chicken building does not there, but is pushing us to get the cutting/trimming up done.
I will not risk the lives of the workmen over the lives of a few chick's.
