The first lecture will be at 2.30pm at the Museu do Traje in São Brás de Alportel, and the second lecture will be at 6pm at the Convento de São José in Lagoa.

Dr Campbell Price will be giving a presentation about Queen Hatshepsut who ruled Egypt between around 1473-1458 BCE. She was unconventional, pious, ambitious, and, above, all innovative. Her remaining monuments are some of the most beautiful from Pharaonic Egypt, but her name has been consistently attacked on most of them. How did she rise to become one of the most powerful women in the ancient world? What were her achievements? Why was her name attacked? And what was her legacy? This lecture will review some of the fascinating evidence for a unique personality.

Dr Campbell Price is Curator of Egypt and Sudan at Manchester Museum, Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool and Chair of Trustees at the Egypt Exploration Society, the UK’s foremost charity supporting Egypt’s cultural heritage. He has published widely, lectured internationally, and regularly comments on Egyptological subjects for TV and radio. His latest book for children, written with Greg Jenner, is Totally Chaotic History: Ancient Egypt Gets Unruly (Walker Books, 2024).
