The government will “promote a rigorous assessment of the extinction of SEF and its integration into other services, namely, to identify and correct legal non-conformities, operational failures and areas of conflict of competences”, states the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government delivered today to the Assembly of the Republic.
The Government also proposes to “evaluate the restructuring of the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), in order to correct legal, operational and conflict of competence flaws”.
The previous socialist executive ended SEF, which was extinguished on October 29, 2022, passing the police powers of this security service to the PSP, GNR and PJ, while the functions in administrative matters related to immigrants to the new agency and for the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), and the Borders and Foreigners Coordination Unit was also created, which operates under the authority of the secretary-general of the Internal Security System.
The Agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum (AIMA), which deals with the regularisation and integration of immigrants in Portugal, also took over the powers of the extinct High Commission for Migrations
Been trying, without any success, to set up appointment on SIGA app. What a joke this is.
Maybe, just maybe someone will fix this new system. We won’t hold our breath.

Will they ask any of the people affected by SEF, AIMA, etc., for our assessments of their (cough cough) "service"? That's who the government should speak to.

They need to make their website better, at least add a option if someone's residente card lost, damaged or stolen so can apply it online.

And when is this likely to take place, situation cant be anyworse thsn currently. I have tried to raise concerns with both my consular office and the EU based on fact that lack of competence and delay in visa renewal affects our right to free transit through the EU but no interest. And as for raising this with the responsible government ministry, forget it. Only action is a legal class action i think and take the government to court, but how long will that take? However happy to sign up if someone has the appetite for starting a class action, with a backlog of 370,000 cases i am sure there could be a significant number of interested people.

I’m in where to start?? Mathew??
It’s not about the money for me it’s about respect understanding and communication.
This is a European Country under its directive with simple guidelines for immigration.
I’m doing everything I can.
