Although there are over 23,000 parking spots at Dublin Airport, there is not enough to meet demand.
According to Graeme McQueen, a representative for DAA, the airport operator, reservations for certain days in June, July, and August are almost completely booked.
“We're seeing big demand for the peak weeks in summer, and what will happen is that even if one or two days are sold out on those weeks that you want to book for, you won't be able to book for the two-week period.”
It follows the competition authority's decision to prevent DAA from purchasing the adjacent Quick Park facility, and the Fingal Development Plan's prohibition on the airport from creating its own extension.
Editor of Travel Extra Eoghan Corry told Newstalk that the 6,000 spots at Quick Park need to be made available as a stopgap measure.
“Quick Park is in excellent shape. It may be operational in a week as you can see when you take off from the cross runway, which is what many planes have been doing lately.”
This summer, tensions may increase as a result of the scarcity of parking spots. To exert pressure on the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to grant DAA exclusive control over the Quick Park parking lot, Ryanair accused DAA of purposeful mismanagement last year.
While parking spaces are still available, certain days are anticipated to sell out for those travelling throughout the bank holiday weekend.
