In a statement the PJ highlights that the investigations were carried out by the Leiria Criminal Investigation Department, which identified "coincidences" and added, "seven more investigations, noting the massive use of unrepeatable mobile phone numbers, from national operators, for the practice of this type of offense, which triggered alerts and forced the use of special means of obtaining evidence".
The PJ seized 49 'modems', which included 32 SIM cards per device, which means that 1,568 cards operated simultaneously. Thus, it was possible to create thousands of accounts, mainly on WhatsApp, "as well as send/receive messages in the order of thousands per day, through 'hello dad, hello mom' scams".
The detainee had a computer and communications structure set up in his home. "With this investigation and police operation, the consummation, in national territory and abroad, of thousands of computer frauds has been interrupted".
The detainee's wife and daughter were accused of co-authorship of the same crime.
