In a statement, the SATA group said that new operations will begin on June 1 (Saturday) with the start of direct flights between Toronto (Canada) and Funchal (Madeira) and, on the following day, the connection between New York (United States of America) and Porto, and also between Ponta Delgada (São Miguel) and Faro.

On June 4th, direct flights between Porto and Boston (United States of America) and between Boston and Funchal begin.

The new direct routes also include, from June 5, the connection between Ponta Delgada and Milan (Italy) and, from June 7th, direct flights between Toronto and Porto.

In addition to the new routes, Azores Airlines, part of the SATA group, will resume operations between the Azores (Ponta Delgada) and London, offering two frequencies per week, SATA said.

"The implementation of these new operations represents the culmination of a process in which the airline, national and regional entities linked to the tourism sector, promotion and travel agents and local representatives have been strongly committed", highlights SATA, in the note sent to newsrooms.

The airline highlights that "recorded demand indices allow us to envisage a summer with the possibility of surpassing" the 2023 figures.

In addition to these new operations, the airline "increased its regular operations by around 26%" for the summer of 2024 (in the case of domestic and international flights) compared to the same period last year.

Sales, marketing, and communications, Graça Silva, highlights that the new routes provide "more for passengers who want to reach the Azores and more opportunities for those who want to travel between Europe and the United States", allowing to consolidate "the sustained growth trajectory that has been observed at the airline in recent years".
