José Manuel Rodrigues, on behalf of himself, the parliament and the people of Madeira, expresses his “deep dismay” at the death of the girl in this attack, which also killed two other children.

The Portuguese child, who was born on 15 October 2014, is registered at the Portuguese Consulate in Manchester.

The British police confirmed that the attack, which took place in Southport, in the United Kingdom, was carried out by a 17-year-old boy, who has already been arrested, and caused the death of three children - in addition to the 9-year-old Portuguese girl, the others are aged 6 and 7.

Another eight minors were injured in the attack, two of whom were seriously injured, as well as two adults, who are also hospitalised in serious condition.

The children were reportedly taking part in an event at a dance school inspired by American artist Taylor Swift when the suspect entered armed with a knife and began attacking them.

According to police, the adults were injured while "bravely" trying to protect the children from the attack.
