The Municipality immediately contacted the company Águas do Algarve, which repaired the fault, thus ceasing the discharge of wastewater.

Following the incident, the Portuguese Environment Agency - ARH Algarve advised against bathing in the bathing waters of Vilamoura and Quarteira, as of today, as a measure to safeguard the health of bathers.

The Municipal Council of Loulé has requested an emergency meeting with the management of Águas do Algarve, in order to provide explanations about the origin of the fault and what measures the company intends to take to ensure that future occurrences, which would cause completely avoidable reputational damage, are not repeated.

Loulé City Council is closely monitoring the development of the situation, together with the competent entities in the matter, and will make public any changes to the recommended precautionary measure.
