According to the rapid statistics on tourism activity, in July, the tourist accommodation sector registered 3.2 million guests and nine million overnight stays, corresponding to increases of 1.5% and 2.1%, respectively, compared to the same month last year, and of 6.8% and 5% compared to the previous month.

In the month under review, overnight stays by non-residents slowed for the second consecutive month, with a growth of 4.2%, to a total of 6.3 million.

The British market remained the main issuing market (18.3% share), with a growth of 1.3% in July, followed by Spain (12% share), which grew by 6.1%.

Among the 10 main issuing markets in July, France stood out, in 5th position (7.4% share), with the only decrease (-4%).

All regions recorded increases in overnight stays, with the exception of the West and Tagus Valley (-0.4%).

The greatest growth was seen in the Azores (+5.3%), followed by the North (+4.9%) and the Setúbal Peninsula (+4.5%), with less significant growth in Madeira (+0.3%), the Algarve (+0.7%) and the Centre (+0.8%).

Occupancy in tourist accommodation establishments decreased in July, to 59.1% and 66.5% in net bed occupancy and room occupancy rates, respectively (-0.4 percentage points in both).
