In an effort to increase safety and prevent floods, the Port of Aveiro has opened a public tender worth 5.4 million euros to requalify the Avenida Marginal do Porto de Pesca do Largo de Aveiro (dock). Moreover, the intervention also seeks to "contribute to improving safety in the movement of people and vehicles, through the creation of a cycle lane, with the raising of the marginal retention and the installation of tide valves," according to a port of Aveiro source.

A source from the port of Aveiro claims that the primary goals of the procedure that were published in the Official Gazette (DR) are to qualify and improve that significant port infrastructure and to stop partial floods from happening. The national offshore fishing fleet uses the port infrastructure in question, and a number of businesses involved in the fishing, processing, freezing, packing, and seafood distribution industries are situated nearby.

The project has an estimated one-year duration and "will include demolition works, paving, signage, structures, marginal retentions, drainage, electricity and telecommunications network, landscaping and fire-fighting network”. Submissions for the competition are due by 14 October.
