This week, the Portuguese Navy carried out a paratrooper release mission in Alcochete, in the district of Setúbal, an operation that was described as being "historic".

"The Portuguese Navy's Super Lynx MK95A helicopter carried out a paratrooper release mission for the first time this week in Manual Opening Jumps (SAM), in the Alcochete region", reads the Navy's website.

According to the statement, the military personnel of the Portuguese Navy's Special Actions Detachment (DAE), together with military personnel from the Army, "performed the first ten jumps in this modality, at an altitude of ten thousand feet, the equivalent of three thousand meters".

According to the explanation, the DAE was created in 1985 and is part of the Special Operations Unit (UOE) of the Marine Corps, incorporating parachuting as an operational component. See the images in the gallery above.
