The yellow warning issued by the IPMA is for the same time in the four districts: between 00:00 and 15:00 on Friday, due to "showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms".

The IPMA warns that "the occurrence of heavy rainfall in the coming days in regions that have become vulnerable after the recent fires, with the consequent loss of vegetation cover, increases the risk associated with potential runoff".

For Friday, "heavy showers are expected in the northern and central regions, especially in Minho and Douro Litoral and in mountainous areas, and thunderstorms may also occur, although with low probability", details the IPMA.

Air quality

Following "the violent fires, a huge plume of ash was generated which, in addition to spreading over the Atlantic, reached the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula, impacting air quality", IPMA also states.

"With the wind rotation forecast to the west over the weekend, part of this plume to the west of the mainland will be advected [movement of an air mass in a horizontal direction] back to the North and Central regions".

This could "reach the interior of these regions and affect air quality".
