In the third quarter alone (July to September), the profits of the Santander group, one of the largest banks in the world and owner of Santander Totta in Portugal, reached 3,250 million euros, 12% more than in 2023.

The bank attributes these results "to strong revenue growth across all global businesses and regions", the attraction of new five million customers and "good cost control", according to a statement released in Madrid.

Santander group revenues reached €46,185 million between January and September (7% more than last year).

The number of customers, which are 171 million worldwide, increased by five million between January and September, especially in Brazil (plus 6%), Mexico (plus 3%) and Spain (plus 2%).

Customer resources (deposits and mutual funds) increased 3% overall in the first nine months of the year and loans granted by the group grew 1%, to €1.01 trillion.

The president of Santander, Ana Botín, quoted in the statement, states that the bank has achieved "strong and profitable growth" and says she is convinced that "this strong momentum" will remain throughout the rest of the year and in 2025, despite the "increasingly volatile geopolitical context".

Santander is present in several countries in Europe and America and has 3.5 million shareholders, 208 thousand employees and 171 million customers.

Last year, it had profits of 11,076 million euros, a record amount and 15% higher than that of 2022.
