CP – Comboio de Portugal reached an agreement with the Itinerante Commercial Review Railway Union (SFRCI) after “a period of negotiation that allowed a consensus to be reached”, the ministry supervised by Miguel Pinto announced, in a statement sent to the Lusa agency.

“As a result of these negotiations, the aforementioned union committed to suspending, with immediate effect, the strike that would have a strong impact on the circulation of trains and the lives of citizens”.

Miguel Pinto Luz welcomed the understanding that allowed the strike to be ended and also “with the benefit achieved for CP users and for the company's social peace”, according to the note from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.

In another statement, CP confirmed the agreement and thanked the SFRCI for the "posture of dialogue and understanding demonstrated throughout the negotiations".

"Cooperation was fundamental to achieving this consensus, which promotes the well-being of workers and the efficiency of the company," said the company.

CP reaffirmed its commitment to "continue working together (...) to ensure a fair and motivating work environment, without putting the sustainability of the company and the service provided to our passengers at risk."

CP ticket inspectors and box office workers had started a strike last Thursday, with the carrier anticipating interruptions in operations, especially on 31 October, the day on which a total strike would occur.
