According to the report that evaluates the 27 member states in six categories: work, money, knowledge, time, power and health, “Portugal was the only country with a negative variation in scores in the field of work”.

“In most countries, the increase in scores was not very significant, varying between 0.1 point and 1.2 points,” says EIGE.

The 2024 Index uses data from 2022 for the most part and charts progress in both a short-term (2021-2022) and long-term (2010-2022) perspective.

In terms of work, the institute says that “between 2021 and 2022, Portugal's score decreased slightly by 0.2 points, causing the country to drop five places in the EU ranking to 14th place”.

“This decline is mainly due to the increase in gender inequalities in the segregation and work quality subdomain, resulting in a decrease of 1.2 points and a drop in the ranking from 16th to 19th place,” says the report.
